Woman injured in officer-involved shooting near Indio Hills
One woman was injured following a Sunday night officer-involved shooting near Indio Hills.
On Sunday night at approximately 11:00 p.m., Riverside County Sheriff’s Deputies from the Thermal station responded to the scene of an officer-involved shooting investigation being conducted by Joshua Tree National Park Service Rangers and Bureau of Land Management officers in the area of Berdoo Canyon Road east of Dillon Road near Indio Hills.
The preliminary investigation revealed that the Bureau of Land Management officers came to the area to assist park rangers with an illegal off-roading and failure to yield investigation. A Bureau of Land Management officer attempted to stop the off-roading vehicle and an officer-involved shooting occurred.
The woman on the off-roading vehicle sustained non-life threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital. A man was detained at the scene. The identities of the suspects have not been released.
The Bureau of Land Management Officer who discharged the weapon has been placed on administrative leave. The officer’s name has not been released at this time.
The investigation is still ongoing.
