Trapped Turpin teen posted YouTube videos before escaping
Newly discovered video shows life inside the so-called Perris prison home where police say 12 children were held captive. The video comes from David and Louis Turpin’s 17-year-old daughter who appears to have posted videos on YouTube under a different name.
The most recent clip was posted just one week before police say she broke out of the home where she and her siblings were allegedly kept shackled to beds, calling 911 and alerting authorities to the horrors inside.
She also posted videos on YouTube playing with the two dogs where it shows the grime smudged doors and the clothes piled in the back of the room. Authorities say those two dogs and the Turpin’s youngest child were the only ones who did not suffer from malnutrition when they finally entered the house.
These newest developments come as the siblings continue to recover from their traumatic past.
In mid-January, Louise Ann Turpin and David Allen Turpin made national headlines following their arrest on suspicion of repeated acts of torture and child abuse of their 13 children.
On February 23., Riverside County District Attorney’s Office spokesman John Hall announced that both Louise and David Turpin would face three additional counts of child abuse. An additional felony assault charge was also lodged against David Allen Turpin.
The Turpins have pled not guilty to more than 40 charges. The Turpin parents are currently being held on $12 million bail each.
The horrific case has also brought forth an outpouring of support for the 13 Turpin siblings; according to Erin Phillips of the Riverside University Health System, as of late February, $570,000 had been raised to support the children’s medical expenses and education.
“It’s been amazing the outpouring of love and sentiments,” Phillips said. “It reminds us there is so much light in this world in contrast to such a dark case.”
On Monday, world-famous cellist YoYo-Ma visited Corona Regional Medical Center to perform an impromptu performance for the seven adult Turpin siblings in recovery.
