El Centro Border Patrol arrests convicted sex offender

El Centro Border Patrol agents arrested a previously deported sex offender Friday. 45-year-old Francisco Gomez-Cruz, a Mexican national, was previously convicted in 1999 on a charge of Annoying or Molesting a Child, and in May of 2005 for Failure to Register as a Sex Offender.

Gomez-Cruz was sentenced to 2-year’s probation for his first conviction, and 60 days and jail and 2-year’s probation for his second conviction.

Gomez-Cruz is 24th sex offender arrested by El Centro agents in the 2018 fiscal year.

“This is yet another example of the type of people that our agents are arresting at the border, ensuring that individuals such as this do not endanger our community and our country,” said El Centro Sector Assistant Chief Patrol Agent David S. Kim.

Gomez-Cruz remains in federal custody pending prosecution.
