Local class wins $500 to work on kindness campaign

King’s Schools in Palm Springs won our May One Class At A Time award. The classroom has one goal in mind – kindness.

“Choose kindness. You can choose kindness every day,” fifth-grade teacher Karen Sanders said.

In an effort to instill this doctrine in her students, Ms. Sanders wants them all to read “Wonder”.

“We want to teach about tolerance and accepting others. That’s the message you get in the book,” she said.

Now with this $500 from the Walter Clark Legal Group, Ms. Sanders will buy a class set.

“I think in today’s world with what’s going on to start at a young age and understand hat I don’t want bad things to cloud their judgment or not know they have the power to go out and do incredible things,” she said.

These “Wonder” books will help kids understand that kindness is a choice. Just as their school’s initiative to teach kindness has opened their eyes to profound concepts as well.

“Everyone is unique and special in their own way,” student Sarah Macwan said.

“Not judging people by their religion or how they look or what color their skin is,” student Isaiah Smith said.
