Mulch fire destroys motorhome in Indio Hills area

Cal Fire / Riverside County Firefighters are at the scene of a mulch pile that is burning in the Indio Hills area.

According to Cal Fire, the fire was reported at 3:51 PM on the 31000 block of Northwood Drive. One person at the scene said they lost their motorhome in the fire.

Ricardo Flore lived in a motorhome on the property that was destroyed. He told KESQ & CBS Local 2 he worked on the property the past three years and now has nowhere to go after his home was destroyed.

Cal Fire officials said approximately 2.8 acres of several mulch and debris piles are on fire. 47 firefighters and 14 engines are at the scene. As of 8:30 PM, the fire is 50% contained. Firefighters expect to remain on scene until approximately 1 AM.
