Family of man killed in Indio car crash raises money for funeral
Early Sunday morning, Jose Francisco Pinela was struck by a car while crossing Avenue 44, west of Apache Street, in Indio. He was pronounced dead less than an hour later at Desert Regional Medical Center. He was 65.
Although Pinela is gone, his memory lives on. His granddaughter, Danielle Torres, remembers him fondly and wrote this on the GoFundMe page for her grandfather’s funeral expenses.
“Jose was a wonderful man he tried to be the best he could for his family. He was loved very dearly by his family. Jose has two surviving children Dolores and Benjamin. Jose has five surviving grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.”
At the time of this publication, the campaign had raised $40 toward its $6,000 goal.
“Please help a family in dire need of funding for their grandfather’s funeral services,” the campaign message continues. “We need all the help we can get so that his services would be paid for by Friday, July 13. Unfortunately, our family wasn’t prepared for this and we are asking for the public’s help.”
