Inland storms wreak havoc over region

Showers in east Riverside County on Saturday prompted flash-flood warnings throughout the region.

The weather event made a bang in Banning during the early afternoon hours with a heavy downpour and a lightening strike caused a house to go up in flames. The California Highway Patrol said trees caught on fire in at least two other locations in the city.

The National Weather Service said the heat has caused a high pressure system to steer moisture over the area, prompting thunderstorms along the San Gorgonio Pass.

Despite Flash Flood Warnings in some areas, there was no precipitation measured in any desert city.
