Construction causes heavy traffic on I-10 E between Washington & Jefferson, backup clearing
UPDATE: The CHP reported the closures were reopening, the traffic advisory was being lifted, and traffic was beginning to clear at 8:32 a.m.
ORIGINAL STORY:
Traffic was backed up Tuesday morning due to road construction on Interstate 10 in Indio near the Jefferson Street Interchange.
Caltrans road crews told a KESQ News Channel 3 and CBS Local 2 News crew they are mapping out future construction projects in the area.

The California Highway Patrol issued a SigAlert at 7:00 a.m. due to eastbound traffic backed up from Jefferson Street all the way to a mile west of Washington Street.
Road crews were working in the freeway lanes just east of Jefferson Street closing the freeway’s number 2 and 3 lanes to Monroe Street.
The Caltrans crews say they sent out a public notice of the work and closure but say they were told the CHP did not receive that notice.

The freeway’s westbound lanes were not impacted by the road work, which was expected to continue for two more days at the same approximate times.
The road construction also closed the Jefferson Street Eastbound on and off ramps overnight.
