Family of Palm Springs murder victim believes ‘justice was served’
After two hours of deliberations, the jury had a verdict. 35-year-old James Beushausen was found guilty of the first-degree murder of Jaylynn Amanda Keith. On March 15, 2017, Beushausen shot his 27-year-old girlfriend in the head in their Palm Springs apartment, then staged the scene to appear to be a suicide.
Keith’s family members were emotional and relieved when they heard the verdict.
“I feel sorry for his family…but I feel even more sorry for us because guess what? We’re never going to have another Christmas with Jaylynn,” said Lynn Hemphill, a relative of Jaylynn. “We’re never going to have anything with Jaylynn ever again.”
Michelle Paradise, the Assistant District Attorney prosecuting the case says she is relieved with today’s verdict.
“I’m happy. I feel justice was served. They did the right thing and now Jaylynn is smiling,” Paradise said.
The prosecution argued that even Beaushausen himself had described Jaylynn as “independent and strong” not suicidal.
“She was a fighter and she was tenacious and she was independent and that was known by everyone including Beashausen,” Paradise added.
After an emotional day, friends and family said they feel as though they can finally grieve.
“I mean, it’s just emotional. What else could it be? I think justice was served today. ” said Victor Soderlind.
Friends and family said they hope Beaushausen will be sentenced to life in prison. He faces 50 years to life for the conviction today. He will be sentenced on August 20th.
