Desert Storm girls basketball team representing valley, competing in tough tournaments
Whether it’s Palm Desert’s DVL MVP Alexis Legan, or Cathedral City’s DVL champion Nina Wallace, for the second straight summer some of our valley’s best basketball talent have come together to form Desert Storm.
“Cathedral City, Yucca Valley, Palm Desert, Shadow Hills, La Quinta, La Quinta.”
“Everybody on this team was either first team or MVP of the league,” Head Coach Ryan Towner said.
“This is definitely very competitive between all of us and on another level compared to high school practice and makes it a lot more intense,” Alexis Legan said.
“Some of your biggest enemies and rivals like Alexis and now playing with all them it’s fun to know they are nicer,” Emma Svoboda said.
Playing in some of the biggest tournaments in the nation like this week in Chicago.
“The Tournament of Champions so every top team in the nation will be there,” Towner said.
“Biggest tournament in the country so a really big deal,” Angie Reutgen said.
Trying to help desert basketball take a huge step forward.
“See some improvements definitely cause usually every team has one player that can do everything but this year it has developed that teams are getting better because of Desert Storm basketball,” Legan said.
Putting those long arms and long legs to the test.
“Play girls that are similar heights so when we get back to league we will dominate in the paint because there are not many other 6 foot girls in the valley,” Svoboda said.
See if they can bring home some hardware from the Windy City.
