Indio Border Patrol arrest convicted sex offender
Indio Border Patrol agents arrested a previously-deported convicted sex offender on Thursday evening.
Shortly before midnight, Border Patrol agents stopped a vehicle occupied by a U.S. citizen and three illegal immigrants. Record checks were then conducted, and it was revealed that one of the passengers, Fidel Espinoza-Vasquez, a Mexican national, is a previously convicted and deported sex offender.
Espinoza-Vasquez was convicted on a charge of Lewd and Lascivious Acts with a Child under the Age of 14 in California in April 2016. The 39-year-old was sentenced to one year in prison and five years felony probation.
“Due to the continued vigilance and professionalism of our agents, predators such as this will not have an opportunity to harm the people of our country and our community,” said El Centro Sector Assistant Chief Patrol Agent David S. Kim.
Espinoza-Vasquez is the 27th sex offender arrested in El Centro sector since October 1st. He will remain in federal custody pending prosecution.
