Missing woman’s family speak out on “out of the ordinary” disappearance

The family of a missing woman who disappeared into the desert speak out.

Velva Jacklin, 54, disappeared last weekend. She was last seen Saturday at a Chevron on Palm Drive in Desert Hot Springs.

“I don’t have a good feeling about her being alive,” said Nina Duran, Jacklin’s daughter. “I hope for the best. … It makes me sick, every day that goes by.”

Her boyfriend told police she disappeared from the gas station when she wandered into the desert searching for her missing dog.

Judy Flores, the grandmother of Jacklin’s child, went searching for clues.

“We looked at the Chevron station,” Flores said. “Why would (her boyfriend) let her walk down there by herself?”

Police say the boyfriend is neither a suspect nor under arrest.

In recent voicemails, Jacklin told Duran she is ready to leave the relationship and move in with her.

The family is sometimes nearly giving up hope that she could still be alive.

“I wonder if she’s out there dead,” Flores said. “It’s a scary feeling to know that she could be out there.

Jacklin’s daughter is unsettled and suspicious.

“It does not make sense,” Duran said. “It’s crazy and it’s disgusting.”

Police ask anyone with information on Jacklin’s whereabouts to call 760-770-0303.
