Police investigating Yucaipa shooting

Police were investigating a shooting that left a Desert Hot Springs teenager with serious injuries.

The Yucaipa Police Department released a statement saying two suspects abandoned the 16-year-old behind a 7-11 store in Yucaipa Saturday evening at 6:13 p.m. at Yucaipa Boulevard and 14th Street.

He had suffered a gunshot wound in his abdomen.

CalFire firefighters and an AMR ambulance responded. The teen was transported to Loma Linda University Medical Center for treatment.

The teen has not been publicly identified. He underwent a lengthy surgical procedure and was said to be stable and is expected to survive.

Police said an unknown black male helped the victim out of the vehicle and placed him on the ground, then sped off with the female driving.

It was unclear where the shooting occurred.

Anyone with information was urged to contact Yucaipa Police Department detectives.
