Hot weather and heat wave will bring more bugs
With triple digit temperatures and an upcoming heat wave, more bugs are spiders are expected to crawl their way into homes and backyards.
“You have to imagine those insects are miniature people,” said Bob Powley from Bob the Bug Guy pest control in Coachella Valley. “If you’re a person in the desert, you’re looking for shade, you’re gonna look for a rock, something to hide under.”
Just like people, snakes, coyotes and bugs are in search of cooler temperatures, shade and water.
Some of the most common creatures that come out during the summer months are black widows, crickets, cockhroaches, scorpions and earwigs.
Tips to keep your backyard bug-free:
Don’t hose down your backyard after spraying with repellent chemicals Don’t lean brooms or trash bins against your wall or garage — black widows hide in these spaces Check and clean underneath barbeque covers or pool toys after sitting outside for long periods of time Be proactive with frequent pest control services Call your local Animal Services or a professional to remove dangerous animals
