CHP releases new information on deadly Highway 74 crash

A 44-year-old man was killed when his vehicle left the roadway and rolled over Friday night along Highway 74 in south Palm Desert near the Bighorn Golf Club.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident was reported at 9:20 p.m. Officers at the scene told KESQ News Channel 3 & CBS Local 2 News the driver was thrown from his vehicle and died at the scene just west of Palowet Drive.

The CHP said in a release Monday the driver of the 1998 E320 Mercedes Benz was not wearing a seatbelt.

Nobody else was in the car.

Officers said they believed speed played a role in the crash. Neither drugs nor alcohol had been ruled out as factors in the crash.

The dead man’s name had not yet been released pending notification of relatives.
