Agua Caliente Cultural Center set to open in the Spring of 2020
The Palm Springs city council and the Agua Caliente Tribal Board gathered Monday evening to discuss the construction progress of the Aqua Caliente Cultural Center in downtown Palm Springs.
“A lot of people don’t realize that there is a tribe here in Palm Springs. You know most people look at Elvis Presley once lived here, the rat pack used to come here, this is the playground of presidents but there is a tribe here that outdated all of that,” said Jeff Grubbe, Tribal Chairman of the Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians.
The project is expected to stimulate economic growth adding around 300 jobs to Palm Springs.
“What’s good for Palm Springs is good for all of us, the tribe and the city,” Palm Springs Mayor Robert Moon said.
The 5.8-acre cultural center will include a museum, bathhouse, plaza, gardens, and a spa.
Mayor Moon is excited to add the cultural center to the revitalized downtown.
“We have the Palm Springs Art Museum now we’re going to have this wonderful cultural museum and we have other things going into Palm Springs like the new downtown park,” Moon said.
The tribe broke ground on the center on May 11 and it is expected to open by Spring 2020.
