Heat a factor in Indio man’s death, 6th heat-related county death since July 7

Heat was a factor along with underlying health issues in the July 16 death of an 84-year-old Indio man. The next day, a 91-year-old woman died at Parkview Community Hospital in Riverside due to”prolonged exposure to elevated environmental temperatures within a residence without cooling measures.”

This is the sixth heat-related death in Riverside County since July 7.

Always remember to take extra precautions, especially this week. The Excessive Heat Warning remains in place until Thursday.

“Anything over 110 is pretty critical. and I think the big issue that people have to be aware of, is that as soon as the temperature [outside] goes above the body temperature, the body can’t offload heat into the environment anymore,” Dr. Andrew Kassinove, the Medical Director at JFK Medical Center’s Emergency Department told KESQ & CBS Local 2’s Madison Weil.
