Coachella affordable housing complex accepting applications
Low-income families in the east valley are now able to move into an affordable housing complex in Coachella.
The project, which adds 80 units to the original 56 unit Cesar Chavez Villas in Coachella, was announced in July 2017. The units are on a land adjacent to the complex near Bagdad Avenue and Harrison Street.
The goal was to provide affordable housing for local farm workers and their families. Many of them are often forced to live in sub-standard or overcrowded situations.
“It’s a very difficult process. We’ve been doing this for more than 20 years and we’re very very proud of that,” said Juan Arroyo, of the Pacific Southwest Community Development Corporation. “But it’s a significant break for people that are just getting started or people that are on fixed income like seniors.”
Applications are being accepted for one to three bedroom homes, we have been told there is already a waiting list of nearly 500 families. The cost for the 744 x 1,032 sized units will be around $ 726 to $1,010. Click here for an application or call 760-266-5303.
