Tips to keep your garage cool in the summer

It’s the hottest place in your home, but you still want to be able to use it.

Garages in the Coachella Valley during the summer can make an oven feel cool! There are several reasons for this. Location is certainly one. A west facing garage will be hotter because it gets the intense afternoon sun. Also, garages that are painted in darker colors are warmer than garages painted light colors.

Did you know immediately driving a hot car into your garage can cause the temperature to increase! A smart move is to let your vehicle sit outside for a little while and allow the engine block to cool before garaging it.

CBS Local 2’s Kris Long spent some time looking into ways to make your hot summer garage at least a bit more user-friendly. He’ll report on everything from air conditioning your garage to simply removing clutter as ways to cool down that part of your home.
