Pools infected with legionnaires bacteria are expected to reopen, recent tests come back negative

Swimming pools at a Palm Springs community are expected to reopen at Four Seasons 55+ community.
The community pools had been closed for about a month because of a bacterial infection detected in the water.

The local company contracted to disinfect the pool area, KC’s Plumbing, tell KESQ & CBS Local 2, the pools are now testing negative for legionnaires bacteria. KC’s Plumbing used a fairly new technology to rid the pool of the bacteria without using chemicals.

According to the owner of KC’s, Kelly Russum, the CDC is expected to conduct a final test before the pools are open to people living in the community next week.

Health experts say legionnaires’ disease is a deadly bacterial lung infection and can be transmitted when people breathe droplets of bacteria-infected water. People 50 and older have a higher risk of being infected by the disease.
