Charges still pending against football coach in controversial video
The Riverside County District Attorney’s Office has requested more information from the Beaumont Police department, before deciding if they will file charges against a Beaumont High School football coach caught on camera hitting a student.
Cellphone video filmed last October shows Beaumont High School football coach Will Martin punching a student in the stomach. Martin was placed on administrative leave after the video surfaced and didn’t return to the sidelines for the Beaumont Cougars for the rest of the season.
Several parents said the short video was taken out of context and a longer version shows the students playing around.
“It was done in fun, he (Martin) jokes around with the kids all the time,” said Anna McFarland, mother of a (then) senior football player.
The District Attorney’s Office has returned the case to the Beaumont Police Department for further investigation. According to the District Attorney’s Office This does not mean that charges couldn’t be filed at a future date. They have requested more information from Beaumont police and continue to staff the case, which is awaiting further review.
Beaumont Unified School District tells us that Martin resigned last March. We have reached out to Beaumont Police to see if they are pursuing the case.
