Chocolate shop suffers big losses due to Cranston Fire
As firefighters get closer to fully containing the Cranston Fire, local businesses on the mountain are feeling the economic effects after a week without power and customers.
“We lost all our ice creams, all our milks. We were down there and could not come back up,” said Erik Landis, co-owner of the store.
Many shops in the downtown Idyllwild area dodged fire damage but are now dealing with thousands of dollars in lost product and income after a whirlwind week.
“It’s really scary as a business owner but we should be able to pull through,” Landis said.
Landis said the tight-knit community has come together, after finding out insurance wouldn’t cover the losses. The family started a GoFundMe page in hopes to regain thousands in lost income and product.
“We were gone on the weekends where we make the most money,” Landis added.
The family has been staying with neighbors and relatives until they’re able to return home where the fire came as close to their back fence.
“Everyone has been super heartwarming with open arms and has received us but I want to go home you know,” Landis said.
Their message to those wanting to help, bring your family and your pocketbook to Idyllwild as these families and many more try to get back on their feet.
“If we can get as much business as possible. Anyone can come up, we are here, all the shops are open too we are trying to make a living here,” said Jessica Landis, co-owner of the store.
