Idyllwild families get fresh food thanks to local food bank

Families in Idyllwild, affected by the Cranston Fire evacuation got some much needed fresh food thanks to the Riverside-San Bernardino branch of Feeding America Thursday. Food was distributed at the Mormon church in the town.

According to the food bank staff, about 20,000 pounds of perishable and non perishable foods were shipped by a truck to the town to distribute to potentially hundreds of families in the area. The items included frozen goods, fresh fruits, and canned goods as well as non-food items like diapers.

Riverside County health officials have warn residents returning to the mountain communities to throw away any perishable foods as they are likely spoiled due to the lack of refrigeration caused by a power outage during the height of the Cranston Fire.

Staff with Feeding American said they are seeking to have another food distribution event next week to continue serving anyone in need.
