Judge orders release of birth certificates, photos, camera to Turpin children
A couple accused of imprisoning, starving, and torturing 12 of their 13 children in their Perris home appeared in court at the Riverside County Hall of Justice today.
David Allen Turpin, 56, and Louise Turpin, 49, were last in court in June when a Riverside County judge ruled that there was sufficient evidence for them to stand trial on more than three-dozen felony charges.
During today’s hearing, a judge ordered the released of birth certificates, photos, and a camera to the Turpin children. The parents are set to return to court on August 31.
David Turpin and Louise Turpin were first arrested on January 15 after their 17-year-old daughter escaped the home and contacted 9-1-1 dispatch about the alleged abuse.
The 17-year-old told a 9-1-1 dispatcher the night of her escape, which triggered the investigation into the Turpins, that her two younger sisters were “chained up to their beds,” shackled so tightly their bodies were bruised, according to testimony heard at the hearing Wednesday.
The Turpins would both face 94 years to life in prison if convicted. Each is being held in lieu of $12 million bail at the Robert Presley Jail in Riverside.
