Desert Hot Springs fire started in homeless encampment

A wildland fire has been reported near the intersection of Verbenia Drive and Ironwood Drive in Desert Hot Springs.

The fire was reported shortly before 1:30 PM.

The blaze was sparked in a homeless encampment on the property. The city of Desert Hot Springs is currently working with the owner of the parcel of private land to have the homeless encampment cleared, according to Desert Hot Springs Police Department public information officer Doria Wilms.

No injuries have been reported.
