On July 31, he died at Desert Regional Medical Center. According to Jose Arballo Jr., the senior public information specialist for the Riverside University Health System-Public Health, the cause of death was due to “extensive underlying health issues and heat.”

According to Arballo Jr., this most recent death is “probably the last for July,” but he plans to check the county’s vital records bureau to confirm.

“Anything over 110 is pretty critical. and I think the big issue that people have to be aware of, is that as soon as the temperature [outside] goes above the body temperature, the body can’t offload heat into the environment anymore,” Dr. Andrew Kassinove, the Medical Director at JFK Medical Center’s Emergency Department told KESQ & CBS Local 2’s Madison Weil.

An excessive heat warning remains in effect for the Coachella Valley until 8 p.m. Thursday.
