Taylor Ward holds highest batting average in minor league
It has been an incredible stretch of baseball for Shadow Hills grad Taylor Ward since being called up to Triple-A Salt Lake back on May 25th.
As of August 6th he holds the best batting average (.348) in the minor leagues out of the estimated 6,500 players.
The LA Angels continue to struggle below 500 and the question of calling the 2015 first round pick up to the major leagues last week was presented to General Manager Billy Eppler in an article from the Orange Country Register.
“He’s raking, he could use more time in the minors learning to play third. This is his first season after moving from catcher. The game is going to present you with a variety of plays and the randomness of those plays is hard to replicate in practice, For him getting an opportunity to play third base every day in Salt Lake, at this moment in time is what we felt was best.”
MLB rosters expand from 25 to 40 on September 1st and Ward will likely be one to join the Angel roster.
