DHS Golden Eagles trying to ignore 2017 & soar into brand new season

Errol Wilson taking over as the head coach of the Desert Hot Springs Golden Eagles.

“Just don’t trust you right away. They have had guys come and go and to them I am just the next guy up,” Errol Wilson said.

When you don’t win a game all season the only way to go is up.

“Very hard to stay motivated but I worked through it. Now I am looking forward to my senior year and hopefully ending it strong,” Angel Moran said.

It is back to the drawing board, instead of a player only playing offense or defense the best player will play.

“We want to force the issue more, make sure our best guys are touching the ball when we want them too,” Wilson said.

“Going back to the best 11, I think it is the best thing right now for this program. We have a lot of talented guys that could go two ways,” Nathan Kelly said.

Coach Wilson believes he has the talent to get it done.

“Cream at the top, our top level is very good, good enough to beat anybody. We got to get some of these younger guys, some guys that didn’t see the field as much last year developed. That’s going to determine whether we are going to be a successful football program,” Wilson said.

To build depth you need them to show up.

“Attendance problem. It is around like 75 kids on the roster, maybe 50 show up everyday to practice,” Moran said.

A very solid quarterback to build the offense around. Nathan Kelly was thrown around a bit in 2017 and dealt with some injuries. Still tossed the rock for 1,700 yards and 16 touchdowns.

“If I am the best in the league I mean I am grateful but I am not worried about being the best player but the best team,” Kelly said.

Trying to send the message early that you should not ignore the Golden Eagles because they are ready to soar.

“Get the confidence of the community back. Our goal is to get the confidence of the players going. If we can do that early n our first 3 preseason games then our goals are going to escalate quickly,” Wilson said.

The 2018 high school football previews will air up until the season starts, which is Friday, August 17th for some of our area teams.
