Man arrested for attempted murder following structure fire
Man arrested for attempted murder following a structure fire in Desert Hot Springs.
Cal Fire officials responded to reports of a structure fire in the 15600 block of Palm Drive Tuesday at around 7 p.m.
According to Doria Wilms, public information officer for DHSPD, firefighters discovered a badly injured man inside the burned structure suffering from traumatic injuries consistent with an assault with a deadly weapon. The man was taken to the hospital in critical condition.
Desert Hot Springs police detectives and investigators then arrived at the scene and assumed the investigation.
Wilms confirmed weapons consistent with victim’s injuries were found inside the residence. Cal Fire Arson investigators assisted at the scene and determined the fire was intentionally set after the assault.
A suspect was identified and at approximately 1:50 AM, Miguel Espino, 25, of Cathedral City was taken into custody in Desert Hot Springs.
Espino was arrested and booked into the Riverside County Jail in Banning on charges of attempted murder, arson, and drug violations. He is being held in lieu of $1 Million bail.
