Neighbor speaks out after fire next door leaves one dead
Many residents of the Indian Wells RV Resort in Indio woke up to the sight of a home on fire.
“I thought I heard a person screaming, then I saw orange coming through the blinds and I looked and called 911 and grabbed my laptop and backed up as fast as possible,”
When firefighters contained the fire, they found a person dead inside the home.
One neighbor told KESQ & CBS Local 2 he saw a silver car parked outside the property and a man hanging around the home earlier that day.
Residents say the home belonged to a family of five, who no longer living there. They have been described as friendly neighbors.
“They had brought me food over to my place. You can see the BBQ, the only thing left standing. They brought me carne asada. They were just awesome people but they left about a month and a half ago,” a neighbor said.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Officials say it remains unclear at this time if this was an accident or if the victim or someone else started it purposely.
