Arrest made in Palm Springs shooting, suspected shooter still on the loose

Arrest made in relation to Palm Springs shooting, but suspected shooter remains on the loose.

Tuesday at around 4:30 p.m., the Palm Springs Police Department received reports of a shooting in the 500 block of Rosa Parks Drive. At the scene of the shooting, officers found an unoccupied vehicle with obvious bullet holes and blood inside.

During the investigation, officers said they received reports that an 18-year-old Hispanic man from Indio arrived at Desert Regional with a gunshot wound. PSPD confirmed the victim suffered non-life threatening injuries.

Investigators attempted to see if this was related to the shooting but the victim was uncooperative. According to a news release by PSPD, investigators now believe the shooting and the victim at the hospital are related.

The investigation led PSPD to contact Indio resident, Ricardo Perez, another person possibly related to the shooting. The news release reveals officers contacted Perez at the hospital, but as they questioned Perez about his involvement in the shooting, he attempted to flee. Officers captured Perez and placed him under arrest. Further investigation revealed Perez had a handgun inside his vehicle.

Detectives say they believe Perez and the victim were involved in an illegal narcotics transaction which led to the shooting involving a possible suspect. Perez is not currently believed to be the suspect in the shooting of the victim but was with the victim at the time of the shooting. The shooting suspect is currently unidentified and outstanding. Based on the circumstances, investigators believe this to be an isolated incident.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact PSPD at 760-323-8115. Anonymous crime tips can be called into Crime Stoppers at 760-341-7867
