Pools at Four Seasons reopened after two-month closure
The pools at the Four Seasons, 55+ community in Palm Springs, are back open after a two-month long closure.
The pools were originally closed in June after testing positive for Legionnaires’ Disease. The pools were supposed to be open earlier this month but 6 of the 11 areas that tested positive pools for the disease tested positive again.
The community then planned on replacing the pipes and conducting hypothermal flushing. The pools were scheduled to be retested sometime after August 21.
Residents of the community told KESQ & CBS Local 2 that two people who used the pools got infected with Legionnaires’ in January.
The Riverside County Department of Environmental Health shut the pools down in late June. The pools have undergone numerous private tests since it was first closed.
According to health experts, Legionnaires’ disease is a deadly bacterial lung infection and can be transmitted when people breathe droplets of bacteria-infected water. People 50 and older are at a higher risk of catching the disease.
According to the Department of Environmental Health, three to four cases of Legionnaires’ disease are reported each year in the county. People infected reportedly experience flu-like symptoms, according to the CDC.
