L.A. man arrested for alleged theft of 800 lbs of lemons in Thermal
A 69-year-old Los Angeles man was arrested today on suspicion of grand theft of agricultural products following an alleged heist of 800 pounds of lemons from a Thermal farm.
At 9:45 a.m., Riverside County Sheriff’s Deputies from the Thermal Station conducted a traffic stop near the intersection of Grapefruit Blvd. and Pierce Street in Thermal. During the stop, they discovered the alleged contraband produce, which had appeared to have been stolen from a nearby farm.
The driver, Dionicio Fierros, was arrested and booked into Indio Jail, and the lemons were confiscated.
The deputies, who are assigned to the southern Coachella Valley Community Services District Team, were in the midst of an investigation into a string of recent agricultural thefts in Thermal, Mecca, and Oasis.
