Man arrested after Palm Springs to Indio high speed chase
A man was arrested today on suspicion of vehicle theft following a high-speed chase that began in Palm Springs and ended in Indio.
March Rangel, 37, was arrested at 11:28 a.m this morning on Avenue 44 west of Golf Center Drive on several charges, including felony counts of taking a vehicle without the owner’s consent, evading peace officers/reckless driving, receiving known stolen property, and possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell, as well as several misdemeanor drug charges.
He was booked into Indio Jail at 3:37 p.m. today. He is being held on $210,000 bail.
His first court appearance is set for Thursday at 8:00 a.m. at Larson Justice Center in Indio.
The chase, which began shortly before 11 a.m. this morning, began when officers from the Palm Springs Police Department attempted a traffic stop of a vehicle which had been reported stolen during a burglary in another desert city. The vehicle initially pulled over, then sped off shortly afterward on Interstate 10 eastbound.
California Highway Patrol officers took over the pursuit near the Cook Street Exit on I-10 W at approximately 11:11 a.m.
Rangel was arrested by the Riverside Auto Theft Interdiction (RAID) task force.
