Pedestrian killed in Cathedral City collision

A man is dead following a Sunday evening collision in Cathedral City.

At 9:10 p.m. Sunday, officers from the Cathedral City Police Department responded to a call of an injury traffic collision near the intersection of Ramon Road and Shifting Sands Trail. Upon arrival, they found a Hispanic male pedestrian who had been struck by a vehicle.

Cathedral City Fire Department paramedics arrived on the scene shortly after CCPD, but the pedestrian had already succumbed to his injuries.

The victim has not yet been identified, pending notification of next of kin.

The preliminary CCPD investigation found that the unidentified victim was crossing Ramon Road, traveling north when he was struck by an eastbound vehicle. The driver of the vehicle remained on scene following the collision and was cooperative with the investigation.

The cause of the collision is still under investigation. Drugs or alcohol did not appear to be a factor in the collision.

The driver did not sustain injuries.
