One man dead following La Quinta homicide, person of interest hospitalized

One man is dead following a La Quinta homicide at a residence on the 54700 block of Avenida Vallejo. Homicide detectives have taken over the scene. A person of interest, later identified as Stacy Rowan of La Quinta, was involved in pursuit with California Highway Patrol which ended in Ontario, California.

Once the pursuit ended, Rowan was transported to an area hospital for a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The vehicle he was driving, a blue 2005 Toyota Tundra, is registered to Michael J. Mcgrath and Paula M. McGrath of La Quinta.

A woman also sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

Rowan’s house caught on fire several hours after law enforcement arrived on scene, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department. The fire was put out shortly before 1 p.m.

Units from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department and Cal Fire are on the scene. One person was transported from the scene in an ambulance.

According to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department, the death investigation is an isolated incident, and there is no threat to public safety.

People are advised to avoid the intersection of Avenida Portero and Calle Potrero. The incident was reported at 8:11 a.m.

A resident living in the neighborhood of the investigation told KESQ News Channel 3 & CBS Local 2 that this morning he heard screaming, and saw a woman in the street with an apparent gunshot wound to the arm. The neighbor, Jose Maciel, assisted the injured woman, giving her his shirt to help wrap the wound.
