Neighbors speak on illegal marijuana grow house as police return for search warrant
John Rodrigo, 75, was arrested on Wednesday after police found 600 marijuana plants inside his home on the 300 block of West Stevens Road in Palm Springs. Adult Protective Services took four seniors away from living conditions they say could have caused serious injury or death. Today, police returned to the home to serve a search warrant.
Neighbors on the street spoke with KESQ & CBS Local 2’s Jake Ingrassia, painting a picture of other bizarre things happening at the home.
“My reaction is I’m not surprised because there’s so many odd things going on, so many allegations among the people about what’s wrong inside the house that I’m not surprised to hear anything — and especially in this environment,” said neighbor Steve Moses.
Moses described other bizarre things happening at the house, including an 80-year-old man staggering onto the street and collapsing onto the pavement two weeks ago. The man later died.
“It’s a very upscale neighborhood so it was always a bit of a mystery why that house was like that and the suspicious activity,” said Chris Kilpatrick, a neighbor on the street.
Police haven’t elaborated on what elder abuse was occurring in the home, saying the investigation is still in its early stages. Anyone with information is asked to call Palm Springs police or Valley Crime Stoppers at (760) 341-STOP.
