Horse dies in collision with vehicle

A vehicle struck a horse with a person on board today, injuring three people and killing the horse, authorities said.

The crash happened at 8:16 p.m. in the 21000 block of Markham Street, according to April Newman of the Riverside County Fire Department.

Two people suffered major injuries and were taken by ground ambulance to a hospital, Newman said. The third patient was evaluated by paramedics at the scene and declined further treatment.

The horse died at the scene, she said. The California Highway Patrol is investigating.
