Local girl born with a rare heart condition gets transplant
Codi Pelton, a 12-year-old from Desert Hot Springs born with a rare heart condition, finally has a new heart!
Codi was born with hypoplastic left heart syndrome, a birth defect in which the left side of the heart is underdeveloped. As we reported earlier this month, the local community turned out to support her at a blood drive and fundraiser.
“It makes me feel gracious for the town I live in. I grew up here so everyone is supporting our daughter which means a lot to us,” Lisa Pelton, Codi’s mother told KESQ & CBS Local 2 at the fundraiser. “Codi is a fighter and she’s a spunky kid, I’ll tell you that knowing her personally, and we’ve known for some time that we will behind her and the family all the way.”
Lisa told KESQ & CBS Local 2 the surgery was successful, Codi is recovering and doing great. She thanked everyone for their prayers.
A family friend set up a GoFundMe page to help the family as they take time off from their jobs to be in Loma Linda with their daughter. You can find that page here.
