Health clinic at Martha’s Village to extend hours

The “Health to Hope” clinic at Martha’s Village and Kitchen is now open, but due to an influx of patients, beginning November 1, the clinic will be adding an extra day.

The clinic accepts walk-ins and patients that don’t have insurance. Some patients say the clinic has changed or even saved their lives.

“This is a real good clinic. On my behalf, they gave me my life back. Because I was struggling out there,” said Ruben Gutierrez, a patient at Health to Hope Clinic.

The clinic offers general primary medical care, health screenings, family planning, immunizations, child visits as well as nutrition and cardiology services. They also offer mental health services and substance abuse recovery programs.

“We give them housing and food and we see children here and help with immunization we see adults…adults can have problems from diabetes to hypertension to past strokes,” said Dr. David Sacks, who works at Health to Hope.

The clinic is normally open Wednesday & Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., but it will soon be open Monday as well.

Doctors said they haven’t finalized the hours the clinic will be open beginning November 1 because they are trying to determine which hours would enable them to see the most patients. They say they understand many of their patients work during the day and want to make sure they’re open in the evening at least one day per week.

“For anybody in the valley that perhaps doesn’t have the means to or the insurance to afford a good rehab…they want some help with the problems they have going on in their life…they’re welcome to come down…we’re here for them,” said Cody Kennedy, a Certified Alcohol & Drug Counselor at Health to Hope Clinic.
