Man charged with Banning woman’s murder to stand trial
A 20-year-old Beaumont man accused of killing a Banning woman must stand trial on murder and child endangerment charges, a judge ruled today.
Devonta Eugene Leonard is accused in the Feb. 20 slaying of Evangelina Ysiano, 21, whose body was found just before 10 a.m. at her residence in the 500 block of North Hathaway Street. Officers went to the scene after receiving “several reports of a possible dead body at the location.”
Leonard’s relationship, if any, to Ysiano was not disclosed by police, who also did not specify the cause of death. However, the criminal complaint filed against Leonard includes a gun use enhancement.
The child endangerment charge involves a 4-year-old girl identified only as Jane Doe.
Leonard remains in custody in lieu of $1 million bail and is due back in court Nov. 16 for a post-preliminary hearing arraignment.
