New Coachella library opens doors to the public
The City of Coachella is welcomed a new library to the community Saturday with city leaders hailing it as a step forward for residents.
Cheers all around as Coachella’s brand new library opened to the public, a chance for the community to indulge in the love reading, some at an early age.
That includes one and half year old Elena, whose parents are thrilled about the library’s opening.
“I think she’s going to use the books and resources that are here to learn how to read and maybe even help her to say her first few words,” Edgar Castro of Indio, said.
He plans on taking Elena to the library every weekend to promote her education.
“I think it will stimulate her brain into coming into this library so she can find out and learn about new things,” Castro said.
The $11 million library and technology center comes after three years of construction and community input, funded by a local tax approved by voters, Measure U. Coachella Mayor Steven Hernandez says the library builds brighter futures.

“They’re the truest forms of democracy. You can literally learn how to build a bike or learn how to run for office,” he said.
The library consists of about 8,800 square feet of usable space including study rooms, a teen section, children’s section as well as books in both English and Spanish.
“There’s a lot of room and I’m really excited to see what’s going to be happening in the near future,” Castro said.
Castro’s optimism is fueling hope that his daughter will be positively shaped by this new resource.
