Locals come together for second annual DHS Pride Festival
It was an event full of music and revelry- as the LGBTQ community in Desert Hot Springs came together Sunday morning for the second annual pride festival.
Christmas classics are being belted out by a men’s choir, creating a bright atmosphere at the Desert Hot Springs Pride Festival.
“I think it’s a great environment. it’s a beautiful place. You can see the mountains, you can see the pueblo museum,” Jason Liebhauser, treasurer for Diversity DHS, said.
With rainbow flags being flown prominently, the LGBTQ community in the city are happy to show their pride, like this couple.
“It feels good because Palm Springs is not the only place where there’s pride,” Mark Cohen, a resident of DHS said.
It’s the second year of the festival where around 700 people signed up to attend. Up from around 500 from the year before. Music and resources were all on hand, providing entertainment and services for the entire community.
“It’s about celebrating everyone’s uniqueness, everyone’s diversity and coming together,” Liebhauser said.
“I’m hoping that we continue with Pride up here and get larger each year,” Charles Mercer, a DHS resident, said. {“url”:”https://twitter.com/JeremyChenKESQ/status/1054131860572377091″,”author_name”:”Jeremy Chen”,”author_url”:”https://twitter.com/JeremyChenKESQ”,”html”:”&#lt;blockquote class=”twitter-tweet”&#gt;&#lt;p lang=”en” dir=”ltr”&#gt;The &#lt;a href=”https://twitter.com/hashtag/DesertHotSprings?src=hash&ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw”&#gt;#DesertHotSprings&#lt;/a&#gt; Pride Festival is underway! “It’s more than shootings and pot, and troubles which are all that ever gets on the news. There’s things to be glad about, so that’s one of the things we love about it,” Cohen said.
A love that’s being shared with pride.
