Man arrested following Palm Springs rooftop standoff
The shirtless erratic man has been caught by law enforcement.
Vincente Garcia, 30, of Palm Springs is in custody pending charges of being under the influence of a central nervous stimulant and resisting police officers. He was transported to an area hospital as a precaution and remains in custody at this time.
According to the PSPD release, Garcia has prior theft and drug arrests on his record.
At 7:50 a.m this morning, law enforcement received a report of a man in the area of the 700 block of Sunny Dunes Road who appeared to be under the influence of drugs. Officers were able to locate Garcia, who was pacing back and forth, yelling at officers, and making several attempts to jump from the rooftop.
The incident came to an end when Garcia ‘safely climbed down from the rooftop’, according to a PSPD news release. East Sunny Dunes Road in the area of the incident was closed down for 2 hours but has since re-opened.
Law enforcement initially attempted to detain the man around 9:30 a.m., but the suspect evaded their attempts then jumped to a different roof.
Officers from Palm Springs Police Department, deputies from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department, and firefighters from the Palm Springs Fire Department are on scene. Law enforcement received the initial call this morning when there was a report of a man on the roof of American Tire.
