Aerial Tram Road Challenge climbs to 33rd year in the making
Locals and visitors tackled this year’s annual Palm Springs Aerial Tram Road challenge. Participants climbed an elevation of more than 2,000 ft. for the 6k walk and run Saturday morning.
Hundreds participated for the event’s 33rd year in the making — bringing kids, families, walkers, runners and outdoor enthusiasts together. The trek spanned 3.7 miles from the bottom of the Palm Springs Tram Road to the tram’s valley station.
The event started at 7 a.m. and lasted many hours which temporarily blocked Tram Road throughout the morning. Special finishers’ medals and tee-shirts were given to participants.
The first Tram Road Challenge took place in 1983 and was won by Rob Slick — who completed the race in just 27 minutes and 35 seconds.
