Motorist killed by suspected DUI driver in Riverside
RIVERSIDE, Calif. – A motorist was killed by a suspected drugged driver in a two-vehicle crash today in Riverside.
The crash happened around 5:20 a.m. on the 4900 block of Central Avenue, where paramedics pronounced one motorist dead at the scene. The other driver, a woman, and a person inside her vehicle were treated for minor injuries, said Sgt. Brian Smith of the Riverside Police Department.
The woman was later arrested and booked into jail on suspicion of felony driving under the influence of drugs and gross vehicular manslaughter, Smith said.
Initial reports indicate that she was heading westbound on Central Avenue when she collided with the victim’s eastbound vehicle.
One of the vehicles came to rest on a cable communication box.
Riverside police said that Central Avenue would remain closed in both directions for several hours between Carlo and Montclair drives while an investigation is conducted.
