Broken Glass Awards honors women in film and television

Monday was the 10th Annual Broken Glass Awards hosted by Palm Springs Women in Film and Television at Agua Caliente Casino Resort Spa. Six women were honored for “breaking the glass ceiling” in the entertainment industry and through philanthropic works. They were recognized for the efforts they have made to pave the way for others to follow.

Beverly D’Angelo is best known for her role as Ellen Griswold in National Lampoon’s Vacation and the following sequels, as well as a variety of other film, television, and Broadway roles. She was honored with the Gena Award.

Sharon Stone is a Golden Globe and Emmy award winner. She is best known for her role in “Basic Instinct” and supports a number of causes. Stone was not present to accept her award at the event.

Singing funny girl Kaye Ballard received the Lifetime Achievement Award. Her career in the industry spans seven decades. She said the highlight of her career was finding a home in Palm Springs.

Author and journalist Sue Cameron won the Broken Glass Award, given to a woman who has demonstrated substantial achievement in the arts. Cameron has been a daily columnist and TV editor for The Hollywood Reporter and other publications, as well as the director of daytime program development of ABC Network. Cameron is an original founder of Women in Film.

Selby Dunham is the founder of Bighorn BAM, a nonprofit dedicated to cancer care in the Coachella Valley. Dunham received the Humanitarian Award at Monday’s event for her contributions to the community.

Actress Elizabeth McLaughlin received the Rising Star award. She has served on a multiple SAG-AFTRA boards and is best known for her roles in Hand of God and The Clique. She shared that she was excited to be back in the desert for the Broken Glass Awards. Her father formerly worked at College of the Desert.
