Glenn Close to be honored with award at Palm Springs International Film Festival

Two-time Golden Globe award-winning actress Glenn Close will be honored at the 30th annual Palm Spring International Film Festival with the Icon Award. The award, which will be presented at the Film Awards Gala, will be for her performance in The Wife, a drama directed by Björn Runge.

“Glenn Close is a rare and enduring talent who has consistently brought challenging characters to life on film, television and stage for over four decades,” said Festival Chairman Harold Matzner in a statement. “In her latest feature film, The Wife, she gives a tour-de-force performance as the perfect spouse, who relinquishes her own ambitions to propel her husband’s career. It is our honor to present the 2019 Icon Award to Glenn Close.”

In year’s past, the award has been presented to Meryl Streep, Tom Hanks, Willem Dafoe, Michael Douglas and Robert Duvall.

Close, a six-time Academy Award nominee, earned her first Oscar nomination in her feature film debut, 1982’s The World According to Garp. Close has also been nominated for 12 total Golden Globe Awards (2 wins).

On the smaller screen, she has also garnered praise for her work in television on the stage; she has 13 Primetime Emmy award nominations, and three wins as well as four Tony nominations and three wins.

The Film Awards Gala will take place on Thursday, January 3 at the Palm Springs Convention Center. The full festival will run from January 3 to 14.
