Elderly man dead following Palm Desert crash

An elderly man is dead following a two-vehicle collision in Palm Desert, according to Cal Fire. The victim died at the scene.

The accident, which happened around 11:30 a.m., involved two vehicles that appeared to collide head-on. The crash prompted a closure of Cook Street that lasted about an hour.

Investigators say one vehicle was traveling southbound on Cook Street when they suddenly drove into the northbound lanes and collided with another vehicle. An elderly male driver of one of the vehicles was pronounced deceased at the scene

Drugs and/or alcohol are not believed to have played a role in the crash, according to Investigator Munoz of the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.

The investigation to determine the cause of the collision is ongoing. Anyone who witnessed the collision or has further information is asked to call Officer Potter from the Palm Desert Police Department’s Traffic Team at (760) 836-1600.
