Evacuees stay hopeful as Woolsey & Hill fires continue to burn
Firefighters are continuing to work aggressively to stop the spread of two separate fire burning in Ventura County. Evacuees tell KESQ & CBS Local 2, they’re staying hopeful they’ll have a home to come back to.
Sirens have been heard all day and all night long, as first responders from several agencies including the Palm Springs Fire Department, worked around the clock to contain the 35,000-acre Woolsey Fire and 4,500-Hill Fire.
“I can tell you that our firefighters and our first responders are doing all they can to protect lives property and environments region,” said Los Angeles County Fire Chief Daryl Osby.
Some people, like Jackie Scally have had evacuated twice since last night’s initial orders.
“By ten o’clock, I left my house, oak park, went to my parents in Thousand Oaks, then at 2 a.m. in the morning there we got notices that we had to evacuate so everything is in my car,” Scally said.
Santa Ana winds playing a major factor in the fast-moving flames, jumping from city to city.
“We’re expecting another wind event Sunday so there’s not going to be any relief in relation to this firefight,” Osby said.
The pair of fires erupting as the community of Thousand Oaks and its neighbors mourn the borderline mass shooting.
“It’s sensitive times, emotional times for the community. One way or another were connected to the events, so everybody is caring, heavy hearts so we’re hoping after this good news comes our way,” Scally said.
It has been an overwhelming few days for a lot of people out here in Ventura County but they are thanking firefighters for their tireless efforts in saving their community.
